Mochi for celebration✨
Mochi(glutinous rice cake) is not always something to eat. It's also used for a ceremony called Issho Mochi, which is to celebrate the baby's first birthday!
Issho is a unit of old Japanese liquid measurement, and it is 1.8 kilograms.
Also, "Issho" means one’s entire life, so the ceremony is held to wish the baby longevity and a life without hunger.
Stepping on the mochi, which is called fumi mochi (踏み餅), is practiced in some regions of Japan such as Kyushu.
The act symbolizes living a long life as having strong legs will carry one through a lifetime.
Isn't it interesting?
